Diliman Preparatory School won the Top Award as the Most Transformative School for Learning Effectiveness and School Efficiency at the 5th Excellence in Educational Transformation Awards (EETA) on August 29, 2017 at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater, given by Bayan Academy in collaboration with Rex Bookstore, Knowledge Channel, ABS - CBN Lingkod Kapamilya and the Department of Education.
EETA is an annual award given to public and private schools that have shown exceptional efforts in educational transformation and innovation. The Award was given to schools that displayed innovations in Quality of Education, Learning Environment, Access to Education and Leadership as well as Governance and Management.
Diliman Preparatory School was among the nineteen (19) shortlisted entries. During the screening process, members of the Technical Screening Committee visited the schools and evaluated how innovations have really transformed the entire school community, including students, parents, faculty, staff and admin. After careful deliberations, ten (10) finalists were chosen. Each finalist had a chance to present in front of the EETA National committee judges, headed by Dr. Eduardo Morato, Chairman of Bayan Academy.
Diliman Preparatory School showcased its successful adoption of the Whole Brain Learning System, an educational philosophy that brings out the genius in every child through an integrated, value-laden curriculum towards academic excellence, talent development, moral and ethical formation, global awareness, and social responsiveness. The DPS curriculum integrated development of the seven self-mastery skills in learning as introduced by Dr. Eduardo Morato. The 7 self-mastery skills include learning to think, to do, to feel, to communicate, to intuit, to lead and to be. The curriculum was further enriched by making sure that students are taught the 4 C's of the 21st Century learning; Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical thinking. The school kept up with its learning spaces by providing state-of-the art facilities and unique programs such as, English Proficiency Intervention Program (EPIP), Space Science, Robotics, Tourism Program and Healthy Lifestyle Program among others. High school students have STREAM Programs where they take up introductory courses that prepare them for College. DPS graduates not only enjoy holistic development during their stay in DPS, they also get a very good advantage by being accepted in the schools and colleges of their choice.
"Frankly, a long time ago, we didn't think we'd ever make it but that was the greatest challenge. Our journey towards EETA began in 2010, when we realized that the only way forward in education is through innovation and in doing things differently." Sen. Nikki M.L. Coseteng, DPS President, said in her acceptance speech.
Other winners of the 5th Excellence in Educational Transformation Awards are Create and Learning Paths School (CLP), Lawit Elementary School, Department of Education – Carcar City Division, Department of Education – Camiguin Division, and Chiang Kai Shek College.
