Sports

Sports

DPS proudly offers one of the premier athletics programs at the grade school and high school levels in Metropolitan Manila. Backed by excellent sports facilities, a team of some of the country’s best professional coaches and dedicated athletes, DPS continues to garner achievements and awards in the fields of Basketball, Taekwondo, Swimming, Volleyball, and more, in regional, national, and international tournaments.

DPS– the home of the champions –strives to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, discipline, and hard work among its athletes.

Basketball

At DPS, there are two basketball varsity leagues, namely: the Mini Midgets Basketball League and the Junior Basketball League. DPS also has basketball clubs in different grade levels, to allow all students access to the sport.

The school has two gymnasiums, which are utilized for competitions and training sessions. Former PBA player and current head coach of the UP Fighting Maroons, Mr. Rensy Bajar, is the head coach for the junior team, while Mr. Jay-V Olea coaches the Mini Midgets Basketball League.

Taekwondo

DPS offers the Taekwondo program to students as young as six years old to ensure that even at an early age, they learn how to defend themselves. National trainer and referee, Mr. Napoleon Dagdagan Jr., is the head coach for our Taekwondo club and varsity.

Many of our DPS Taekwondo athletes go on to join the Philippine Team. One such distinguished alumnus is Japoy Lizardo, whose list of achievements includes bagging the Gold Medal in the Southeast Asian Games in 2005 and 2011.

Swimming

At DPS, we integrate swimming in the curriculum by making it a part of the students’ Physical Education class. Swimming is also offered as a school club and as a varsity. The school has three swimming pools– one Olympic- sized swimming pool, one toddler pool, and one kiddie pool.

The varsity team, under the guidance of Coach Albert Sermonia I, is multi-awarded in the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) monthly competitions as well as in the annual Nikki Coseteng Swimming Cup.

Volleyball

DPS has a volleyball varsity league as well as a volleyball club. Both are under the direction of Mr. Lee Barbacena Ventura, who strives to inculcate the value of teamwork in his volleyball athletes. The team makes use of the two gymnasiums in the school for their practices, trainings, and competitions.

Others

DPS offers an array of sports programs: Badminton, Table Tennis, and Chess are also available to students. The DPS Pep Squad and Drummers, headed by Former National University Pep Squad Member Mr. Reinato Ruiz, cheers on the different teams and are the leaders in school spirit.
